I have yet another new project on the needles, for me this is a bad thing. I’m a process knitter not a product knitter, much to my disgust. Basically that means that I love the art of knitting but find it difficult to finish off a project as I just love knitting and get so excited by new projects with new stitch patterns. I don’t want to be like that though, I want to be able to finish my knitting projects and not just when it’s a Christmas present, which is the only thing I seem to be able to actually finish.
As you can see, I have 5 official projects on the needles at the moment, that is of course a huge fat lie, this is my hibernating list…
Add both of those lists together and that is how many projects are sat in little cotton drawstring bags and hidden away in a cupboard. Also that’s not including the 4 projects I just frogged because I’ve gone off them.
I have the blessing of living with a product knitter though and it’s an eye opening experience. I taught Owen to knit a couple of years ago and in that time he’s only knit a few things but they were mainly socks. This year though I got a beautiful scarf, one of the best presents I’ve ever received. I love knitting presents for other people just as much as I love receiving them and it might be being a bit too honest but I’ll admit that I hoped he’d knit me the odd present, this year I wasn’t disappointed.
Let me say this very clearly, he knits J U S T O N E P R O J E C T A T A T I M E. That is a completely alien idea to me, finishing a project before moving on to another. Whilst I’m sure I’ll devise a list of New Year resolutions very soon, this is definitely going to be one of them – get my In Progress list down from 18 to 2, one complex for the quiet days and one simple for ‘film knitting’. Wish me luck.
That is brilliant. I am so relieved to read from another ‘process not product’ person. At the moment, I have a tea cosy, unfinished. Beautiful, stitched of strawberries, but needs to be MADE UP. Been sitting around for about a year or two!!! I also have a denim ‘strap’ embroidered. It is waiting to be made into the strap of a bag. I am itching to start some new knitting…
Me too and I’m fighting the urge to start another project even now. I started working through my hibernating list this week though and have finished one project and started another, it feels great! I’d highly recommend it :)
