I often get asked when I’ll be teaching more screen printing lessons and so I decided it was time to organise some for Autumn. The best way to do this was to ask people what they would like to learn and how and so I decided to create a survey and give away a 3hr session for free as a prize to one lucky entrant. The lucky winner chosen at random was Harriet, so congratulations to her and a huge thank you to everyone who entered and who kindly filled in the survey.
I asked just a few very short questions:
1. Which type of classes would you be interested in?
2. For one off screen printing sessions, what would your preferred end product be?
3. What skills would you like to learn in a screen printing lesson?
I also asked for any other comments or feedback.
Here are some pretty pie charts with the results…
All of the data gathered was incredibly useful and there were also a couple of surprises. I expected most people to prefer a one off full day session which they did, but I didn’t expect to get so much interest in some kind of regular class. Also the fact that almost half of the people asked chose fabric as their preferred substrate was a complete surprise, it’s nice to know that so many people want to furnish their homes with their own printed fabric.
For the question about skills, I expected the photo emulsion answer to rate much higher than the stencil answer but they were neck and neck on 20%. I was right to expect the repeat design question to have the highest percentage though. I think there is a real mystery surrounding repeat designs and so this is something people obviously want to get to the bottom of.
I’m now going to devise a programme of lessons for autumn, if you’d like to be kept informed about when these classes will be running then please join my mailing list which you can find in the bottom right hand corner of my website.
